It's not too late to join a local school council
Even though elections are over, you still have an opportunity to help improve your child's school.
You are reading this at just the right time, especially if you are a parent of a Chicago Public Schools student or live near one. Even though the elections are over, there are still opportunities for you to join a Local School Council.
Even if you are only thinking about it, you should know that the organization Raise Your Hand is hosting an LSC retreat this Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the National Teachers Academy, 55 W. Cermak, right next to Chinatown.
You might disagree with much of the politics of the organizers and many attendees. But you will find information that will be helpful in your time on a Local School Council and see how important the councils are at your local public school.
So, I strongly encourage you to attend. And if you can’t, please consider reaching out to your school principal before school ends next week about attending the organizational meeting in July to be on the agenda to be added as a council member.
We will write in detail about this process, why it’s important for you to be involved, and your options. The And Campaign Chicago wants to support you in this effort.
You can register for the event here. For more information about the retreat and the organization sponsoring it, visit their website, email info@ilraiseyourhand.org or leave a voicemail at (224) 326-0606.
